You know those totally idyllic moments when everything is just flowing, everyone is getting along and being totally adorable, and you think you may have just stepped into a Norman Rockwell picture? Well, neither do I really, because they are so fleeting and infrequent they can be hard to recall. But when one strikes, you know you better really be in the moment and enjoy the ride, because it's not going to last! We had one of those nights when we were decorating our tree. Lizzy was so excited all day for Pat to get home so we could decorate. As soon as he stepped in the door she was ready to go. We ate a quick dinner, then Pat put on some Christmas carols and brewed up some hot chocolate. He'd even bought whip cream to make it extra yummy. We sat around the table enjoying our delicious treats, then the kids finished and started dancing. They held hands and romped all over the room, big smiles on their faces. Then Pat and I started dancing, and Lizzy and Peter joined in. I know..... Norman Rockwell! We brought out the ornaments and started decorating the tree. Really, Lizzy is just the best person to decorate with. She admires each ornament, and then carefully finds the perfect spot on the tree. Peter hung up a few ornaments too, then entertained himself by climbing all over the couch and pretending to fall off and get ouchies (okay, not so Norman Rockwelley, but at least he was entertained). I loved looking at the ornaments, and remembering the special people that gave them to me over the years, or the unforgettable places they represent. When we were all finished, we turned down all the lights and admired our gorgeous tree. I loved watching the kids bounce all around the tree in excitement. I'm so very thankful I have my family to make the holidays so magical.
