A Great New Park

I'm always looking for new, fun spots to take the kids, and I have been feeling like I'm stuck in the same ol' same ol'. I heard about this great park in Los Gatos and decided to give it a try. When I told the kids what our plans were, you would have thought I said we were taking a trip to the dentist's chair! Never have I heard such complaining and even crying! I immediately thought back to my own poor mom, and all the times she had to put up with me always saying a vehement, "NO!" anytime she wanted to go somewhere. Her mantra finally became "don't even bother to ask. Just go and they'll like it in the end." Well, I'm getting my payback now, but I believe firmly in her advice, and it has worked wonders so far.

As soon as we drove up, the kids were so excited. They got to climb around on a huge model air plane, old fashioned fire truck, and little toy train. After enjoying a great picnic, we walked down a short path further into the heart of the park and had a great time riding the merry-go-round and train. This park was huge, and the train went all around, so we got a view of huge fields with geese on them, a creek, and vast walking paths. After the train ride we "explored" the creek. Stepping off the paved path just a few feet let us into a "wild" area, and the kids were in heaven. It's amazing the spell that comes over you when you feel you are all alone with the world. It felt magical being in that silence, hearing the crack of the leaves beneath your feet and the whisper of the water bubbling by. Lizzy told me, "Thank you, mommy, for taking me to this park. I really like it here." I felt vindicated, and determined to travel to special spots, no matter the complaints. It's always worth it in the end!
